Day 1

Day 1: Hanoi

Greetings! Welcome to Vietnam. Your adventure officially kicks off with a welcome meeting at 6 pm tonight. Feel free to arrive at any time during the day, as there are no scheduled activities until this significant gathering. Look for a notice in the hotel lobby or inquire at the reception about its location. During this meeting, we will collect your insurance details and next of kin information, so please ensure you have these details ready for your leader. If you have brought your own bicycle for the trip, take some time to assemble and check it for any damage before the welcome meeting. For those who have arranged to hire a bicycle, your leader will assist you in preparing the bike before the initial cycling activity. If you have some spare time upon arrival, stretch your legs with a stroll around Hanoi's charming shaded boulevards and enjoy a refreshing bia hoi (freshly brewed draught beer) on a small street-corner stool in the Old Quarter. Please note: If you are unable to arrange a flight that arrives on time, you may consider arriving a day earlier to ensure your attendance. We are happy to assist in booking additional accommodation for you, subject to availability. If you anticipate arriving late, kindly inform the hotel reception or your travel agent in advance. Day 2: Hanoi

This morning, seize the opportunity to explore the Vietnamese capital by bicycle on a guided ride through the city (approximately 22 km). Hanoi is a city designed for bicycle exploration, making it an ideal place to immerse yourself in Vietnamese street life and traffic. Pedal through parks, along lakeshores, and down tree-lined boulevards, visiting iconic landmarks like the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex, which houses the Buddhist temple One Pillar Pagoda and the former residence of Vietnam’s renowned revolutionary figure, Ho Chi Minh. Take in the vibrant atmosphere of the Old Quarter, an architectural museum where ochre-hued buildings evoke the ambiance of a 1930s provincial French town. Along the ancient '36 Streets,' explore a diverse array of shops offering everything from souvenirs to exquisite silk clothing, jewelry, beautifully embroidered tablecloths, wood carvings, and lacquerware – a haven for bargain hunters. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take a leisurely stroll around the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake, where the reflections of modern office buildings, ancient Buddhist temples, and the maze of historic streets create a tranquil setting. Alternatively, delve into the rich culture at the Vietnam Fine Art Museum or The Vietnamese Women’s Museum. Conclude the day with a bowl of piping-hot fresh Pho from a quaint hole-in-the-wall eatery – the street food in Hanoi is a culinary experience not to be missed! This comprehensive experience includes hotel accommodations, the expertise of a knowledgeable guide, meals, transportation, and more.

Tour Overview

Day 1

Day 1: Hanoi

Greetings! Welcome to Vietnam. This adventure commences with a group gathering at 6 pm. As this itinerary doesn't allocate much time in Hanoi, why not consider arriving a day or two in advance to explore the local attractions? Admire your reflection in the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake, stroll along tree-lined boulevards, or unwind in a public park while savoring some delightful street food (how about spring rolls encased in rice paper?). For a dose of culture, you might explore the Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, find tranquility at the Temple of Literature, or indulge in art at the city's Fine Arts Museum. Later in the evening, perhaps indulge in some street-side fare and enjoy a fresh bia hoi, all while observing the bustling motorbike traffic alongside your newfound companions.Accommodation: Hotel
Day 2

Day 2: Cat Ba Island

Embark on a journey by bus and ferry (approximately 3.5 hours) to Cat Ba Island, the largest island within the UNESCO-listed Halong Bay. With numerous small limestone islands dotting the landscape, this region captures the essence of quintessential Vietnamese scenery, featuring vibrant green waters adorned with traditional junk boats and limestone karsts. Take a cruise around Lan Ha Bay, featuring an engaging rice paper roll workshop onboard. Dive into this surreal landscape with a kayaking adventure, a method that also allows you to contribute to the environment. Opt for a net beside your kayak to collect any plastic you encounter, and later participate in a plastic brick-making activity. Spend the night on Cat Ba Island, where you can unwind with a swim at one of the beaches and enjoy a refreshing beer.Accommodation: Hotel
Day 3

Day 3: Hanoi - Overnight Train

Rise to the morning vistas of Cat Ba and the captivating emerald bay, indulging in some leisure time on the beach. Take a refreshing swim, relax with a book, or meander along the sandy shores. The beauty lies in the freedom to choose! In the afternoon, return to Hanoi and board the overnight train to Hue (approximately 12 hours). If this marks your inaugural journey on an overnight train in Asia, rest assured, the first time is always a unique and memorable experience.Accommodation: Overnight sleeper train
Day 4

Day 4: Hue

Arrive in Hue, the ancient imperial capital of Vietnam. Today is yours to explore at your own pace. You may dedicate a couple of hours to discovering Hue's expansive walled citadel, including the enclosed Forbidden Purple Palace. Consider hopping on a dragon boat for a serene cruise up the Perfume River, leading you to the Thien Mu Pagoda. Another option is to visit Dong Ba Market, offering locally crafted items, fresh produce, and tempting street food. Indulge in the dishes once enjoyed by Emperor Nguyen, such as the banh khoai royal rice. If you enjoy cycling, consider a ride to one of the royal tombs, such as the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc, a remarkable and well-preserved example. Alternatively, join an optional motorcycle tour to explore the sights in Hue and nearby villages. Tonight, experience local hospitality as you join a family for a home-cooked dinner, creating moments of laughter and connection over chopsticks.Accommodation: Hotel
Day 5

Day 5: Hoi An

Continue your coastal journey to Hoi An via private bus (approximately 3 hours). Upon arrival in Hoi An, your guide will lead you on a walking tour of this distinctive town, shaped by the influences of Europe, China, Vietnam, and Japan over the years. Since the 17th century, Hoi An has served as a prominent trading port, and its architectural charm reflects this rich history. Despite its small size, the town exudes liveliness in certain areas and tranquility in others. The walking tour will guide you through meticulously restored streets that maintain the ambiance of a bygone era. Explore a historic house, once the residence of a notable trader, the Japanese Covered Bridge, a Chinese assembly hall, and a museum. After the guided walk, indulge in a banh mi lunch – a crispy French baguette filled with delectable pork and various ingredients.Accommodation: Hotel
Day 6

Day 6: Hoi An

Savor a day of leisure in Hoi An. Consider strolling to the Central Market, where you can peruse paintings, woodwork, ceramics, and lanterns. Hoi An is renowned for its skilled tailors, so if your wardrobe has been limited to the same shirt every day (a common predicament), why not visit one of the same-day tailors and treat yourself to something new? Alternatively, for those still seeking adventure, rent a bicycle to explore the surrounding countryside or journey to the coastline for an afternoon along the shores of the South China Sea – an excellent way to venture in and out of town.Accommodation: Hotel
Day 7

Day 7: Hoi An - Overnight Train

Fortunate are the moments when you have another day at leisure in this historically rich sanctuary. Consider exploring the My Son temples, UNESCO-listed treasures that echo the cultural legacy of the Cham civilization. Alternatively, embark on a cruise along the Thu Bon River or bask in the sun with a visit to the nearby Cua Dai Beach. Following your day's adventures, board the overnight train bound for Phan Rang, a charming beach town along the central coast (approximately 8 hours).Accommodation: Overnight sleeper train
Day 8

Day 8: Phan Rang

Arrive in Phan Rang early this morning, welcoming two full days of leisure and relaxation. Boasting arguably the finest weather in Vietnam, Phan Rang is a laid-back coastal city where swimming and savoring seafood are top priorities. You might have the chance to explore fantastic snorkeling spots or rent a surfboard or paddleboard – as if the glistening waters of the South China Sea aren't enticing enough. Feel free to inquire with your group leader for more details upon arrival. Phan Rang's ambiance leans towards beachside enjoyment, so take it slow and unwind because, after all, this is meant to be a holiday, isn't it?Accommodation: Hotel
Day 9

Day 9: Phan Rang - Overnight Train

Fantastic day ahead in Phan Rang – an opportunity to bask in the sun, delve into your favorite book, and relish in a day of swimming, sunbathing, eating, and repeating. Remember, there's one more overnight train to catch tonight, but the silver lining is waking up in another exciting destination tomorrow! As evening approaches, trade the deck chair for a bunk bed and prepare for the 7-hour journey to Ho Chi Minh City.Accommodation: Overnight sleeper train
Day 10

Day 10: Ho Chi Minh City

Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City in the early hours (around 4 am), and proceed to your hotel. Utilize a day room at the hotel to leave your belongings. Formerly recognized as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City buzzes with a myriad of sights and sounds. The French influence is still evident, especially in the delectable baguettes and coffee available. In comparison to the north, the cuisine is spicier, sweeter, and more diverse. Take advantage of the early morning hours by exploring the markets and savoring a bowl of pho with local traders. Your leader will provide recommendations for the best places to visit during your free time. Notably, consider exploring the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum. Today's itinerary includes a local experience with university students known as Ca Phe Bet, meaning 'coffee on the flat ground.' Indulge in coffee and snacks in one of the many parks. In the evening, gather your group for a meal and drinks on Pham Ngu Lao Street.Accommodation: Hotel
Day 11

Day 11: Ho Chi Minh City

Today has no scheduled activities, allowing you to depart at your convenience. If you wish to extend your stay in Ho Chi Minh City, we understand! Additional accommodation can be arranged based on availability. Consider exploring the nearby Cu Chi Tunnels for an intriguing day trip.
